Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead kicked off the first workshop of the Species Conservation and Endangered Species Act Initiative with a nod to the significance of wildlife in the West and a request to find the best way to employ state expertise to conserve it responsibly. Workshop panels and roundtables covered innovative practices and the impact of conservation efforts on energy and mining, outdoor recreation, and agriculture.
Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter hosted the second workshop of the Western Governors' Species Conservation and Endangered Species Act Initiative on Jan. 19, 2016 in Boise, Idaho. Workshop sessions covered the Role of State and Local Governments in Species Conservation, Critical Habitat Designations, Voluntary Conservation Efforts and more.
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead hosted the third convening of Western Governors' Species Conservation and Endangered Species Act Initiative March 9-10, 2016 in Denver. Hawaii Gov. David Ige hosted the fourth and final workshop of the Western Governors' Species Conservation and Endangered Species Act Initiative on Oahu April 7-8, 2016. The Honolulu workshop included sessions on Species Conservation from a Cultural Perspective, Protecting Marine Areas, State and Local Consultation and Coordination, Listing and Delisting Considerations and more.
